6 Ways to Make Money Without Leaving Your Couch

Do you love saving money? Who am I kidding, of course you do. Call me cheap, but I’m constantly looking for new ways to save money and bring in extra cash. That’s why I scoured the internet for some of the best ways to make money without leaving the comfort of your home.

1. Sell Your CDs and DVD with Decluttr

We all have that shelf, drawer, or box, right? The one that is packed with old CDs and DVDs that are only collecting dust? You’ve thought about selling them, but don’t want to host a garage sale and aren’t sure where you can take them. Decluttr just may be the answer you’re looking for.

In the era of iTunes and Netflix, it’s rare that we use these artifacts around the house anymore. I can’t even remember the last time my wife or I popped in one of our DVDs. Decluttr is an extremely easy way to clear those shelves and put some cash in your pocket.

All you need to do is download the decluttr app. Then, it’ll ask you some questions about the CDs and DVDs you’re sending in, give you a quote for how much they’ll pay you, and give you a prepaid shipping label to send them in. After a few weeks, you’ll receive a check in the mail! No need to go wait in line at one of those buyback stores. You can sell this junk in less than an hour without leaving your couch.

2. Honey

No, not the delicious treat that Winnie the Pooh can’t get enough of; I’m talking about the Google Chrome extension that finds you money!

Using it is simple. Just download the Honey extension on the Google store. It will live at the top of your Chrome browser and help you as you shop. When you’re at the checkout page of a website, Honey will automatically search for coupon codes that are valid for your purchase.

Click the code and watch your shopping cart total drop. It's as simple as that.

3. MissingMoney.com

You may have a check waiting for you and you don’t even realize it.

Let’s say you are moving and decide to cancel services with your cable provider in the middle of the month. After boxing up your belongings and moving to your new residence, the cable company sends you a partial refund for the services you already paid for. However, they send it to your previous residence. Once they receive the check back, they pass it on to the state where it is held until you pick it up.

Now, you may be wondering, “How do I know if I have a check waiting for me?” Missingmoney.com is on a mission to reunite you with your missing checks.

Simply go to the website and do a search on your name. You may be surprised to find a check is waiting for you. My brother had a check from Verizon that had been sent to his previous residence. If you have a check waiting, simply fill out a quick claim and wait for the cash to arrive!

4. Class Action Rebates

Need a website to mindlessly browse while watching TV? Check out classactionrebates.com.

When a company loses a class action lawsuit for a product, they are required to pay consumers a certain amount of money. However, you need to file a claim to receive this rebate. This website helps you file the claims and receive the money the company owes you.

By periodically browsing the website for rebates, you may occasionally bump into one that you qualify for. Some of them may can a small amount, while others can pay over $100.

5. Ibotta

Rest those coupon-cutting fingers. Ibotta is here to save the day!

Ibotta is an app for your phone that finds rebates for the items you buy at the store. In just 3 easy steps you can get some cash back for buying items you are buying anyway.

Step 1) Search through different stores for eligible items.

Step 2) Unlock the items you’re going to buy at the store. Some of them require you to watch a quick ad in order to unlock it.

Step 3) Once you buy the item, snap a picture of the receipt through the app and wait for the rebate!

All money is added to your account and can be withdrawn in increments of $20 through PayPal. You can also elect to have the money converted into giftcards if you prefer.

6. Mturk

Amazon Mechanical Turk is a place where you can do small jobs for money. It’s easy to sign up and you can start earning money immediately.

Mturk will have a list of Human Intelligence Tasks (HITs) for you to browse. Tasks can be simple, such as checking the spelling for search terms or writing purchase totals from a receipt. These smaller tasks take less than a minute, but may only pay $0.05. There are bigger tasks to complete, such as transcribing audio files, that may pay you $50+.

Once you complete a task, click submit and wait for the requester to approve your work. Once it’s approved, money is deposited into your Amazon payment account.
